Fictional Narrative Unit
By: Amy Denty
This is a four lesson unit that takes students all the way through the writing process. Special emphasis is placed on story elements, writing good leads, and editing. A colleague and I used this unit together to prepare students for writing stories for the Young Georgia Author competition. The students enjoyed it and it gave us a chance to highlight some great children's literature while teaching writing. Reading and writing really are two sides of the same coin!

Sound
By: Laura Sloan and Tammie Thomas
Students will explain that sound is created by vibration. They will explain that sound travels through the air in waves or ripples. Students will be able to observe that vibrating objects can produce sounds and that the faster an object vibrates, the higher the sound or pitch. The students will be able to observe the slower an objective vibrates, the lower the sound or pitch. As a culminating activity, students will make their own sound instrument. At the end of the unit, students will be able to describe what pitch, intensity, frequency and wavelengths have to do with sound.
