In this unit, the student will demonstrate knowledge of concepts of print. The student will recognize the relationship between letters and letter combinations of written words when reading and writing words, sentences, and stories as well as the correct order of these words in order to express a complete thought on paper.
Sequencing

This is a unit geared toward first grade teaching sequencing through various hands on activities. It incorporates the use of partners as well as individual activities. A well-known children's book "If you give a pig a pancake" by Laura Numeroff is used in one of the lessons.

The Writing Process

This five-lesson unit introduces first grade students to the writing process. Students will work together to create a class book. Throughout the lesson, students will write about their adventures and will add details and corrections to make their writings more interesting for their reader.
